Safeguard Your Lab: A Guide to Choosing the Right Chemical

Chemical storage cabinets play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment. Selecting the right cabinet ensures compliance with safety regulation and minimizes the risk of accident.

Chemical substances such as of explosive, flammable, corrosive, oxidizable, and toxic properties should be stored in appropriate airtight cabinets. In order to securely store reagents and prevent secondary accidents, you should select suitable cabinets based on the stored substances and their intended use. JEIO TECH’s cabinets come in various lines including cabinets specifically designed for acids/bases, flammable materials, and airtight filter cabinets. As each product has different features and recommended storage materials, we encourage you to refer to this post to select the appropriate cabinet for your laboratory needs.

1.Filtering Storage Cabinet (FSC)

FSC is a sealed-type reagent cabinet in which air flow is uniformly formed and the harmful gas is absorbed through the internal filter. It doesn’t need an external exhaust system and suitable for storing substances that emit vapor. It is also safe from fine particles and gas as it is equipped with JEIO TECH’s exclusive carbon filter and HEPA filter.

2.Acid/Corrosive Cabinet (SC-C)
Storage of corrosive substances such as strong acids and bases

If your storing reagent has acid or base properties, choose this SC-C. It is made up of solid steel structure and corrosion-resistant interior materials, and optimized for safe, long-term storage of corrosive substances, and provides differentiated safety performance thanks to its ‘space specific exhaust structure’.
In each interior space of the cabinet, exhaust outlets for contaminated air are individually designed and enables to classify the materials based on their characteristics without mixing different gases within the compartment. The SC-C model typically recommends connecting to an exhaust line or a filter-type exhaust module such as ‘EM-33’.

3.Fire Safety Storage Cabinet (SC3 -30/90 types)
Storage of flammable / combustible materials

In case of an unexpected fire that may occur at any time, flammable and combustible materials must be stored in a suitable location. JEIO TECH’s fire safety cabinets certified the EN 14470-1 standard, would be the best choice for you. EN 14470-1 is the most stringent European standard that must be verified for safety specifications, fire resistance, internal ventilation, shelf stability, automatic door closure, and other factors to obtain. The SC3 is the safest chemical cabinet optimized for storing flammable and combustible substances, offering up to 90 minutes of fire resistance to minimize risks in case of a fire. (30 type stands for 30 minutes) Similar to SC-C (corrosive cabinet), SC3 is also recommended to connect to an exhaust line or a filter-type gas exhaust module such as EM-33.

4.Multipurpose Cabinet (DS-OW)
Physically / Chemically Sturdy Cabinet

The DS-OW is a reagent cabinet consisting of a polypropylene drawer and a stable, sturdy structure with a rigid steel frame coated with epoxy. DS-OW can be used as a general chemical cabinet or multipurpose storage unit without connecting to an exhaust line. Or, it can be used by connecting to a gas exhaust module (EM-33). However, it cannot guarantee the same exhaust performance as the SC-C, so it is suitable for storing labware such as flasks, general chemical reagents, and power-form substances (excluding explosive, flammable, corrosive, oxidizable, and toxic materials).
