Have you experienced any difficulties using an oil bath and a heating mantle to heat the round flasks?

Round flasks are representative instruments in various experiments in the fields of natural sciences and engineering, and are widely used such as storing substances, conducting reactions, and culturing microorganisms. Devices like oil baths, heating mantles, and hotplates are used for maintaining and heating the contents inside these flasks.

Oil baths have the benefit of ensuring more consistent heat distribution than other heating devices. Nevertheless, it is of utmost importance to exercise great care when using oil baths due to the potential hazards of fire accidents and burns resulting from the heated oil.

A heating mantle is often employed to uniformly heat a round flask by expanding the surface area in contact with the solution, in contrast to a hotplate. Nevertheless, there is a potential electric shock hazard if washed directly with water, and the upkeep and cleaning of the apparatus can present difficulties.

Silicone oil, used for double boiling in oil baths, can generate harmful fumes during heating and overflow that causes burns or fires. But, Lab Companion’s heating block for round flasks is safe because it eliminates the need for additional solvents, it doesn’t generate harmful fumes, and it is not exposed to dangerous situations where solvents overflow.



Ⅱ. Easy to clean and maintain!

The contact surface that transfers heat in heating mantles is made of glass fiber. If it becomes contaminated with samples or foreign substances, it cannot be cleaned, and the buildup of foreign substances can disrupt uniform heat transfer. In the case of oil baths, the flask needs to be immersed in a solvent to use double boiler heat, it is inconvenient to have to clean it after every experiment.

Lab Companion’s heating block for round flasks is excellent in wear and corrosion resistance due to hard anodized surface treatment, and its smooth surface makes it easy to clean.
